Pilirani is a devoted researcher on food security and climate change with an academic background in Science and Forestry. Concerned by the lack of participation of women in higher education, she founded the Bunda Female Students Organisation (BUFESO) where, as Coordinator, she works for the empowerment of young women to get academically involved in the field of Science & Agriculture. Currently, Pilirani combines her responsibilities as Gender Policy-Project Assistant at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture & Natural Resources (LUANAR) with her work with rural farmers to implement smart technologies to adapt to climate change and reduce negative impact over population’s welfare. This is a continuation of her academic trajectory during which she ran successful environment-related projects on innovative strategies to adapt to climate change.
