Edgleison is a coordinator of the movement “Youth Monitoring of Public Policies” (MJPOP) a youth-led initiative of social accountability, research, and continual dialog and collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to propose solutions and hold officials to account. He has been instrumental in public policy and improved public services, for example related to violence against youth, slums, and creatively improving urban spaces, in the city of Fortaleza, with one of the highest incidence of youth mortality. He is passionate, and has participated in various conferences at national and international levels (including Rio+20), has had many encounters with government authorities at all levels, and is active on social media (the MJPOP campaign reaching over 50,000 in a week).

Governance is a high priority in development cooperation. Donors work with emerging economies to help fight corruption, encourage citizen’s voices, promote gender equality and ensure accountability.
Giving children and young people a sense of dignity means treating them as important stakeholders in a process that will impact most upon their futures, and not as beneficiaries of inconsistent policy and actions that may hit the target but miss the point.
Young people aged 21-26, proactive about finding solutions to the world’s most pressing problems, have applied to be a Young Leader at the European Development Days to share their views on development.
